Creggs National School

Creggs National School is situated on the Galway Roscommon border. The school was established on the site in 1852. The school consisted of two main classrooms and changed little up until the 1930's when some reconstruction and repairs took place. In the early 1980's a decision by the Department of Education to construct a new building at Creggs was warmly greeted by Principal Mattie McDonagh R.I.P. The new building consisted of three classrooms, a staff room, new toilets and cloakroom areas. In 2009 an extension was added with new classrooms built and a state of the art community centre/gymnasium.  A special class, the "Sunshine" Class was established.  We also have a hydrotherapy pool and the most recent addition to our facilities is a 40m x 25m fully floodlit Astroturf pitch.  Today we are a three teacher school with learning support and resource teachers. We also have five wonderful SNA's, a secretary and a caretaker.

Every year at the school we host many different events like the Mark Fitzmaurice Football tournament and invite along other schools in our area to take part, we host a Coffee morning for Daffodil day which is run every year by the 6th class children, this year we received our 8th Green Flag, we produced a book a few years ago entitled "Scholars" which celebrated 150 years of Education in the Creggs area. We are very lucky to have a wildlife park right beside the school and we're constantly working to improve that this ties in very well with National Tree day and National Tree week. These are just some of the things we're involved with at Creggs National School as you look through our website you'll see a whole lot more!!
